Janet Dale created the poems in Green Light: A Gatsby Cycle by blacking out words on the first page of each chapter in The Great Gatsby. She shared resources and instructions so you can create your own poems using the last page of each chapter!
Supplies Needed:
- A Pencil
- A black marker or pen (other colors encouraged!)
- Gatsby pages (see below!)
How to Create Gatsby Blackout Poetry:
1. Using a pencil, circle interesting words you want to keep. After circling some of the words, you can get an idea of the narrative you want to tell.
2. Once you have an outline of your poem in place, use a marker to cross out the other words, around the circled words, on the page.
3. Erase any pencil marks and read through your new Gatsby blackout poem.
4. Take note of the page number(s) you use for citation purposes.
5. SHARE IT WITH US, PLEASE! #greenlightagatsbycycle
